Contributing to GOLD
GOLD is a linguistic community project. We support and encourage contributions to our ontology in the following forms:
- Examples: submissions involving the use of a GOLD concept in a target language.
These can be made from the page of the concept under consideration. - Usage Notes: notes on how a GOLD concept could be evaluated in a given linguistic environment.
These also can be made from the page of the concept. - Issues: comments on or discrepancies in our current version of GOLD.
These will be collected in order to make decisions on how to improve GOLD for the next version.
Issues with a certain concept can be submitted on that concept's page.
Issues with a missing concept or with some aspect of GOLD as a whole, such as its structure, can be submitted from the Issues button at the top of the main ontology page, or from the link below.
There is a dropdown menu in each form where the concept being addressed can be changed.
All submissions are subject to editor approval, and so will not appear on the site immediately.

Users of the GOLD Ontology may suggest changes to the Ontology using the Issues reporting system, as described above. They may add examples and usage notes at any time, as these are not considered a part of the standard, but Issues will be collected for evaluation.
The LINGUIST List will convene a panel of linguists to examine all the proposed changes once a year, and once approved the changes will be incorporated and released in a new version of GOLD. The old version(s) will still be available on the GOLD Versions & Files page.
This process will be reevaluated after two years to see if it requires any changes.
